I'm trying to sew lace on a single layer of polyester satin using myElna Supermatic (several decades old). The machine works fine if I'msewing TWO layers of the fabric, or if I'm sewing other fabric, but ifI'm sewing just one layer of the satin + the lace, or just the onelayer (putting in basting stitches, for instance), instead of correctlylocking with the upper thread, the bottom thread turns into a tangle ofloops and after a couple of stitches, the bobbin is completely lockedup with thread and I have to stop and take the bobbin and all the bitsof thread out--very frustrating! I've re-checked how I threaded themachine, and it seems correct; I've oiled the machine; the thread andneedle are ordinary types I've used without issue before. HELP! ThisChristmas nightgown looks like it's never going to get finished~!
