Question:

Increase goat milk production?

I have a Nigerian Dwarf doe that freshened in late February. When we went on vacation, I had the neighbors milking for me and they were pretty "green" at the job. My doe lost half of her milk production. Yikes! Is there anyway to bring production back up? Any tips and suggestions?

  1. I don't know your question. Not good details...

  2. I have some suggestions on a feeding program that was developed some years ago in Spain. I came across this when I was in Agro School. Please email me and I will send the file.

  3. More than likely it is just a temporary loss of production, probably a result of your helpers not completely milking the goats dry.  Also your neighbors might have gotten them off their regular feeding schedule.  Give her a little more grain and some time and I would think she would be back to her normal milking level on no time.  Next time you have to leave for any length of time, make sure your help knows what they are doing.

  4. Milk your doe more often. Also increasing her feed. This also means increasing the quality of food in some cases. See the links below for more ideas. Goats aren't that much different to other dairy animals in this case - hence the reason for providing link resources related to dairy cattle. Vets are another resource for advice.

    Hope this helps

  5. Milk more often. It is a demand and supply question. When the demand continues, more should be produced. It works in humans.
