Increase my speed? please help.?

I'm looking to increase my speed along with other things as part of rigorous training to make freshman basketball

can anyone give me tips to run fast? i'm currently only trying stiff legged running.

all answers appreciated, not matter how little advice/drills are given.

  1. squats, which will stregthen your legs...and just intense running as hard as you can for as long as you can. and just keep practicing moving different ways really quick.


  2. I play basketball too, and I trained to considerably increase my speed from last year. My 40 time and my mile time both went up. Last year my mile was 7:02 and my 40 time was 5.34. Now my mile time is 6:27 and my 40 time is 5.02.

    What I did was for my mile time, I just jogged about a mile every other day outside. What I did for my 40 time speed was work out my lower body and not get too much weight on my upper body, but still work it out. But make sure to work out your lower body too because many people forget to do that and only exercise their upper body. Also, I practiced sprinting and my arm movements when I sprint. Every little thing counts in sprinting and running.

  4. IT depends on what you mean.. .Quickness and Speed are two different things... IF you want more speed, run like a mile or more and do exercises a track team would do, or just join a track team lol

    If you want Quickness, get an Agility Ladder or using chalk draw about 10 squares on the ground and do the footwork drills that you would normally do with an agility ladder... Also do suicides, these help your change of direction quickness and you really need that if you want to play ball... Also, If you can buy one of those resistance ropes that you tie around your waist and someone else holds the other end, it will make your first step alot more explosive... If you cant buy that, a good homemade way to do it is to get a large towel and tie it around your waist and have someone stand behind you and pull bak on the towel while you burst forward... Really helps alot...hope u have success
