i have an giganews account with 20 connects.. when i start downloading, comcast speed boosts me up to 2.6M/S and then drops back down to 768K/S.. is there any tricks make it go faster/ exploit comcast speed boost. i noticed alti.bin usenet program has a simple button to connect and disconnect all connections, i wonder if disconnecting and reconnecting will exploit the comcast speed boost, were i disconnect and reconnect over and over after 30 seconds.... grabbit doesnt seem to have this functionality,,,

  1. What you are seeing is burst speeds. Some comcast areas have limited newsgroup speeds while others haven't because it consumes great amounts of bandwidth. Test your connection downloading service pack 3 for windows XP from Microsoft. IF your speed is fast the whole time, they are limiting you. If it drops down to 786, then it is burst speeds. IF you are pulling 700K/Bytes/Sec, that is a 8MBit connection which is pretty darn fast. If it is 786kbit connection, then yea, that is pretty slow.
