Increasing my reading speed?

Can I get people's recommendations for books that I can buy that attempt to teach different strategies and how to increase my reading speed?

The only way to really improve your reading speed is to keep reading novels.

The Read Naturally program has short reading  passages , with a cd of someone reading the the passage.  The program begins with you taking  cold timing first .  How many words can you read correctly in one minute?  Then practice rereading the passage at least three times, reading along with the CD.  When you feel comfortable, do another timed reading.  You should have improved with practice.  Each level is more difficult reading level.  The reverse side of the reading pasage has comprehension questions.

Also, you should be reading faster when you read silently than when you read aloud.   Use a timer to check and see how you are doing.  There are several reasons for slow reading ;the second website has a good list of several possible problems.   maybe one of them will stand out for you.

The third site has specific suggestions for improving reading speed.

Finally, the IDA specializes in helping people learn to read better.  They have books,  CDs and DVDs, some of them very inexpensive.

Are you looking to learn speed reading or just read at a faster rate? I am not sure about speed reading, but in terms of just increasing reading speed I would suggest reading more (things you find interesting) and maybe even reading the same passage two or three times. If it is more academic stuff that you are slow with, maybe try looking at key terms beforehand so you know what they are when you get to them and use a dictionary to look up any words you don't know as you go.

Otherwise, I know I am a slow reader compared to my peers, but I am still able to be quite successful in graduate school. I just have to keep in mind that I need more time than others.
