Question:

Incubator for Leopard Gecko Eggs?

I will be breeding my leopard gecko soon, but I don't want to buy an incubator and that aquarium-brick thingy sounds expensive. Could I just get a tupperware container with some peat moss and air holes and put it on a heating pad? If not, can you think of any other ideas?

  1. you can use a tupperware container with air holes for sure!

    just make sure you get the right material to settle the eggs in, i wouldn't suggest peat moss for your first time with eggs, get some vermiculite or perculite, or even incubation medium from a local reptile store, or order it online. it's not very expensive and will work well for you to keep the eggs moist properly.

    i'm not sure what the humidity or temps should be for leo eggs, but try this site for better info;

    good luck!

  2. It will be hard to maintain at least 82 degrees with a heating pad.  Incubators are only around $30.  We purchased a Hovabator at the local farm store for that amount.

    We use vermiculite.  The humidity should be 60-80%.

    I'm not sure what you're talking about - "that aquarium brick thingy".  Do you have a link?

    You can just incubate the eggs in the warm end of your habitat.  Just make the moist hide shallow enough for them to lay.  We have one female who lays in the moist hide, and one female who just lays out on the tile (they are over the under-tank heater).

    Also, you do NOT need air holes.  That will only let heat and humidity escape.  As long as you do an air exchange once per week, they'll be fine.
