Question:

Independent Thought?

Good day everyone! I was wondering if someone could point out the impossibilities or inconsistencies of the below theory.

There is not necessarily an independent thinking process with everyone on Earth. Think for example of a billboard posted along a highway. How many different, unique thoughts can be initiated by that billboard. If this sign is on, for example, Route 76 near Philadelphia, 180,000 people see this billboard daily. If that billboard is up for 1 year, that advertisement would be seen and interpreted in 65,700,000 instances. How many different patterns of thought could there be? What if it was there for 2, 3, 4, 5 years?

Since our civilization has become so large, and our population continues to grow at an ever increasing rate, could there be a point where all thought might be considered recycled, or has it already happened with a few rare cases of something new thought of?

  1. I remember reading something in regards, but it's more to do with artists.  For example the object out there isn't original, but the way the artist interprets it is original.  Maybe the same thing applies with ideas or interpretation and the approach you take may be original... not sure- deep thought though.

  2. To me, knowledge and wisdom reside on an infinite continuum.  We cannot nor need not reach the end of that never ending process.

We will be able to continue to learn, to think unique thoughts, to innovate...as long as human consciousness continues to exist somewhere in the cosmos.
