Question:

Independent courses at home for high school, in Ohio?

I am currently enrolled in Ohdela Online Schooling and I am supposed to graduate this fall, but I would much rather work at my own pace and get things done more quickly. So I was wondering if there were any independent courses I could do, like quite a few classes instead of Ohdela. Thank You for your answers! :)

  1. Ohdela is public school, if you want to really do independant study, you should try homeschooling.

In Ohio, all you need to do is have a parent notify the superindentent that you want to be excused from compulsory attendance for the purpose of homeschooling.  Then you are free!

I highly recommend that you read, "The Teenage Liberation Handbook" by Grace Llewelyn.

    Good luck :D

  2. My daughter attends ECOT which is another online public school in Ohio.  They let students do course work over the summer in order to complete the graduation requirements faster.  They also offer the Post Secondary Education Option that lets you start attending College Classes for free, using federally funded public tax dollars so that you don't pay for tuition, books, or even gas money driving there.  I have had two children attend college in Ohio starting at age 14.  They both left High School at age 18, with over three and a half years of their college work completed.  You don't have to complete High School to attend college.  You can attend college while still being officially registered as a High School student, that way you don't pay for the college classes.  I know ECOT will help you meet your goals.  Here's their toll free phone number 1-888-326-8395.  I checked out all of the online schools in Ohio, and this one is far better than the others.  They also have a site online, check them out on the web.
