Independent insurance agent?

i am an agent for a insurance company now but i want to become an independent insurance agent. i have been working for about 8 months now, but i heard to be able to become an independent insurance agent you have to first work for a company for at least 2 years. is this true??

  2. No, it is not true. However, depending upon the company and the type of insurance they may want to see a proven track record and a book of business that you can transfer over.

  3. Yes and no. Depending on the company's policy, I say that any company that tell you that you are not independent isn't worth working because it about you. It not about the company let alone the compliance that you have to follow.

    Being independent is not worrying about the qoutas and following your own schedule.

  5. There are several "aggregators" out there that are looking for "previous direct writers" that are looking to become independents.

    Depending on the type of insurance that you are wanting to sell, there are companies that will even plant with new agents. Your biggest "hurdle" Will be your overhead expenses and don't forget about E&O insurance.  Most companies will NOT appoint you without it and a new agents premium could be pretty high!
