  1. An independent variable is what you change purposely. There may be more than one independent variable, but that would be a poor choice, as it would mean that you don't know what caused the change in the dependent variable (what is effected by your I.V.). However, there may be levels of the I.V., like if you're doing amount of water on plants, you might have 5 mL, 10 mL, 15 mL


  2. only one, because if you had multiple you would not be able to determine which independent variable caused the change in the dependent one.
