Indepent volleyball drills?

i'm a setter, and i'm really trying to make varsity as a freshman.

i think i have a good shot at it though, because all the coaches give me tips and i practice with the varsity team. so yeah, i just want to practice really hard and give it my best shot.

so i guess just give me good drills i can do by myself, or even two players. mostly setting, but some hitting and passing too.

(:

  1. find a wall and do ball control

  2. Just set! Set against a wall or just while you're watching tv. Use a small weighted medicine ball to get stronger.

  3. YOu can do the salt and pepper drill with a partner or with a wall. The s&p drill is where you bump set then hit over and over until you mess up. With a partner, you start by throwing and then your partner bumps it, you set it, then they hit it, then you bump...etc.

Another one is just setting into the air. a really high one then a low one.

    3) set the ball into the air, clap once, set, clap twice...etc. see how far you can go

4)set into the air, spin around then set again. It really helps even though it seems stupid. To do it with a partner, set into the air then spin then set to the partner who will set, spin, then set to you and you will do the same.

5)if you have a net and a partner, get in the setting position and your partner somewhere else on the court. have the partner throw the ball some where and you have to set it over the net, then let the partner have a turn. don't always throw it straight to them

    hope that helped.

  4. I set in HS and College......set from the foul line into the net of a basketball, 50x.....then move back and do it from a few feet back......then move back again.....this will help with your accuracy.  When your in bed set to yourself to work on touch and feel....When you get a chance play with different players to learn where they like there sets placed.......learn the hitters as soon as possible and you should have  a head start over everone else.

    Good Luck

  5. set the ball against a wall or you and a friend can set it to eachother.

  6. To practice at home by myself, I made up a drill where I bump, set, bump, set, bump, etc... and see how many times I can do it. Or you can do that against a wall.

  7. throwing a tennis ball against a wall really helps the snap of your wrist, so it's great for hitting and serving..

as for setting you could buy a setters ball, they're a bit heavier than regular volleyballs so they strenghten your fingers!
