Indestructible toy ideas for my cockatoo?

So I love my cockatoo dearly but he squawks so much because he's bored. I want to get him toys but it's more a matter of finding ones that he won't destroy, at the moment all he has are some plastic things to amuse him self and a bell because he can't break that easily, I have tree branches in his cage for perches but I can't think of anything else. Any help please? And don't say toilet rolls because they just get ripped apart and need to be pulled out of the bottom of his cage at the end of the week. Thanks

  1. All of our birds do the same thing.  All of the wooden things in our house are eaten up...it's crazy...but that's just part of owning birds.  Anyways, we have a bunch of bird toys that you get from the pet store...but as you already know...they get bored.  So, we keep them in their cages.  We go to the store and go to the baby section and get cute little baby toys (the little inexpensive ones) the little connect plastic things, rattles.  We also get the little (hard) plastic shapes for them.  For Christmas, we usually wrap up a bunch of wooden spoons and ladles, and they have an absolute ball with those!!  It helps to get a variety of things that are different colors...so when you shop in the baby section and the kids section along with the cookware...they get to choose from a lot of things.

also, one more thing...go to the party section...and get a bunch of those inexpensive party favors that come in packs...they dont last long but they have a ball with them and it is kind of worth it since they are so cheap!! :)  I hope this helps!

  2. Cockatoo's need to have lot's of wood toys to chew and distroy, this is what toys are for with birds.

Hanging Acrylic toys are fun and last a long time depending on size of TOO and how much he chews.

My Umbrella's play and play for year's with the same one's, then one chews through a part and breaks it, but is easy to replace.

Birds store's and many online bird sites sell card board tubes and circles. They are inexpensive and keep beaks going awhile.

Buy hanging wood toys strung on big chains, when the wood is gone you can easily buy a 2 X4 untreated pine wood, cut in size to fit the bird and then drill a hole in th ecenter and drop over the chain for replacement. Inexpensive toy.

Un-treated leather toys last quite awhile too.

Toys are needed for birds for many reason's, so buy different types and always have three atleast in a cage at all times.

Shop around online for well made and safe bird toys for best price. Find local bird store's to save ship costs.

Use chunks of broccoli and carrots for chewing also.

  3. I have two cockatoos and I have the same problem.  I give mine pine cones and smaller tree branches they can hold.   I buy UNTREATED  pine from the hardware store and cut it up into smaller pieces.  The toos love these as they can hold them with their feet.  Anything you give your birds to chew will make a mess, that's just part of owning a cockatoo as  chewing is part of their life.    I clean my cockatoos cages every day as well as my other 3 cages.  I have 9 birds.

  4. well the thing is when you have a large bird a lot of their fun is in destroying things but you can go to doctor foster and get things to make toys.  Me myself l cut wood in chunks and have stiff wire i reuse and l take toys the he can destroy and toys he can't and PVC and string it on the stiff wire,     you can go to Lowe's and get chain an the clasps to make toys too.

also give your bird the toilet paper rolls and baby key in a small box when he gets to come out so its easier to clean...

different toys in different areas make a vary happy bird an you'll find he may even quiet down a lot.
