  1. Wow!  What an impressive curriculum for seventh grade!  Are you the student or the parent/teacher?

Anway, index cards can be used to file information--if you take notes on cards instead of in a notebook, you can put headings on them and file them, so that you can look up that bit of information later without reading all through the notes in a notebook.

And they really come into their own when you start doing research papers!  Make a note card for each bit of information you find in your research, and identify the source on each card.  The when you start arranging the information you've found into a paper, you'll be able to document each piece.  This is a practice that will stay with you all through your academic career.

  2. This question has been asked a lot recently.  Search the archives and you'll find some great ideas.

I would make a timeline - either on a wall, or in a notebook.  Here's a great place to start with information (I use her timeline characters and LOVE them!)

  3. You could make a game like memory, but you write a date or a fact on one card and the corresponding answer on another card. Then you shuffle them, and put them face down, and try to match them up like memory. It will be fun, and help you memorize facts, dates, names, places, etc.

Another thing you can do with index cards is write questions on one side, and answers on the backside, then put them answer side up on the floor or table in front of you in rows. Cover them with dollar amounts and play your own Jeopardy Game, when you reveal the answer, you have to give the question. You can use Monopoly Money if you want to receive actual "money" while you play.

  4. I would use them if I was researching a paper. Topic on each one, footnote info etc. on it as I went along. Then as I was writing the paper, I'd flip thru the cards, get them into the order I wanted to discuss things and go from there!
