India A likely to tour New Zealand in September this year – BCCI sources – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in the process of finalizing a tour of New Zealand for its A team in September this year, revealed sources from inside the board.
A top BCCI official told media reporters on Tuesday that though the specifics of the tournament have not yet been finalized, it would be a three-week long tour and will take place in the month of September.
"We are in the process of deciding the number of matches and working on whether the team will play four-day game or three-day ones. The itinerary will be ready in a week or so," a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
BCCI sources also claimed that in a bid to provide the emerging players exposure to overseas conditions, the board has decided to secure at least two away series every year for the A team after the Indian Premier League (IPL) and before the start of the
domestic season in October.
"We will try to make two tours for sure every season. After all, the 'A' team is the feeder line for the senior team," the official added.
The under consideration tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 will be India A team’s last tour of this season and by the time the players would return home, the 2012-13 domestic season will be upon them.
The India A team, under Cheteshwar Pujara’s leadership, is currently touring West Indies for a full series, which includes three un-official Test matches as well between India A and West Indies A. Overall, the emerging Indian players will play their Caribbean
counterparts in three four-day matches, three one dayers and two Twenty20s, during the one-month long tour of Caribbean.
The first unofficial Test between the two outfits, played at Bridgetown from June 2 to 5 was won by the tourists by 2 wickets.
India are scheduled to play as many as ten Tests, home and away, between August 2012 and March 2013. Sources from inside the BCCI have claimed that the performance of the players during the ongoing series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 A is being closely gauged by
the Indian selectors and are likely to hand the emerging players Test call ups based on their performances in the Caribbean.
