India Cricket - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 under the radar after leading his team to doom
Cricket captains throughout the history have had difficult times when their sides lost important tournaments, resulting in their ultimate demise from the team and from the prestigious slot of captaincy.
No matter how well the captain had led his side in the past one bad series would open the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gates-c58585 of h**l for him. Numerous skippers have been there and seen how difficult it is to retain their captaincy after their team loses a series badly.
Almost two months ago, no one had imagined that India’s World Cup triumphant skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni would find himself in a similar situation where his captaincy might be at stake.
The wicketkeeper/batsman was the wonder boy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Cup 2011, where he led his side exceptionally well, stamping himself as one of India’s finest cricket captains
by lifting the mega tournament.
Before the English tour, even former cricketers from other countries had nothing more than praise for the leadership qualities embedded in Dhoni and no one had imagined the Indian skipper to be left in the abyss of regret after playing against England this
summer.
Before embarking to their doom, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 a run for their money as the World Champions clearly had a heavily star studded outfit as compared to their rivals.
The media hype also added to India’s advantage as there was more talk of India’s anticipated victories than England’s performance in Test cricket. One wonders how the world forgot England’s emphatic triumph in 2010-11 Ashes against the mighty Australians
after which the Kangaroos were left in tatters, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 had to wipe his hands from the captaincy.
If a country like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, booted a well established skipper after suffering a defeat in a Test series, one leads to imagine how long will it take for the Indian cricket board to show the door to Dhoni who took charge of the national team as a Test captain
in 2008.
During his reign, the Indian side has improved in almost every department and it is also important to mention that under Dhoni, India won the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 Championship in 2007 by beating arch rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the final.
Before the English nightmare, all was going well for Dhoni, who was not just leading the team to victories but also grabbing lucrative endorsements by becoming the brand ambassador of many business companies in India.
With so much happening around him, a humiliating tour was the last thing he was hoping for. However, India became the victim of their own arrogance as they chose to turn a blind eye towards rectifying the defects in the national team before getting on the
plane for England.
Dhoni should not be the only one held accountable for the English debacle as the selectors and the members of the team management are equally to be blamed for it, because while Dhoni failed on the field, the management failed behind the scenes.
The selection of the national team was doubtful right from the start as the BCCI stuck with older players instead of gambling with the induction of younger guys.
Sending players who were half fit was always going to be a bad idea and that is exactly what happened as a key player like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379 was ousted from the series after the first match.
With Zaheer gone, India were left with little options in the bowling department and in the batting department most of the players except for the veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 failed to live up to the expectations of everyone.
Once India reach home after the five-match One Day International (ODI) series, things are destined to be changed as it is now evident that team India needs some fixing, however, kicking Dhoni out might not be a solution instead new players should be introduced
who will have a chance to be groomed under the calm and composed captaincy of Dhoni.
