In the group B match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite, Haryana lead by 40 runs with 10 wickets remaining against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gujarat-c787 after posting 61 runs in their second innings at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat on Thursday, December 22, 2011.
Earlier, Gujarat after amassing 46 runs for the loss of one wicket at stumps on the first day of the match, resumed their batting on the second day to post a daunting total in reply to Haryana’s first innings ton of 207 runs.
With a strong batting line-up Gujarat had a serious chance of giving Haryana bowlers a run for their money, and make the best out of the second day’s play.
However, they woke up to a shocking morning as they lost a wicket without adding a run to their overnight tally, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Niraj-Patel-c2109 was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nitin Saini, off the bowling of Mohit Sharma on 21 runs.
Then, on 66 runs, Gujarat lost their third wicket, as opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Priyank-Kirit-Panchal-c82699, took a walk back to the pavilion on a knock of 31 runs.
With three wickets down, without much on the board, Gujarat were in a spot of bother and needed a batting resurgence to avoid complete annihilation.
Middle-order batsman, Bhargav Merai and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pratharesh-Parmar-c2210 forged a stiff resistance in a bid to get their team out of trouble.
However, the partnership came to an end after posting only 28 runs, when Merai was removed in the 31st over after playing a knock of 29 runs. At the time of his departure, the side had posted only 94 runs on the board.
Later, it was a superb partnership of 63 runs between Parmar and Manprit Juneja that helped the batting side stabilize its innings as the batsmen exhibited character while facing the opposition.
With 157 runs on the board, Juneja, lost his wicket after playing a commendable innings of 42 runs.
The demise of Juneja, followed the wicket of Parmer, who found his way back to the pavilion after stroking an innings of 35 runs.
Gujarat ended their first innings by clobbering 228 runs against a decent bowling offensive.
At stumps, Haryana openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Dewan-c83327 stayed unbeaten on 32 and 28 runs in their second innings.
