India International Challenge 2012: Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini claim Mixed Doubles title
Indonesia’s in-form couple Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini remained successful in winning Mixed Doubles title after defeating their compatriots Alfian Eko Prasetya and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the final battle at Tata Open India International Challenge
2012 on Sunday, December 16, in India.
The impressive Irfan and Weni, who were the top seeds in Mixed Doubles main draw of the tournament, played with tremendous precision and managed to end up their lower ranked country-mates in a decent fashion.
Irfan and Weni showed their tremendous skills in the arena and played with greater level of confidence. They managed to end up the final clash in straight sets with a reasonable margin on the score board.
In contrast, the lower ranked Alfian Eko and Gloria played good badminton but they failed to continue their winning run in the final battle and eventually went down without snatching any game.
The impressive speed of Irfan and Weni assisted them to control the pace of rallies and they remained in strong position at the initial stage.
However, the top seeded Indonesian shuttlers could not set up a huge lead as their lower ranked challengers stayed close until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game break, the un-seeded Alfian Eko and Gloria tried their best to play positive badminton but failed to take charge of rallies and remained trailing in the concluding part.
Irfan and Weni were very calm and composed in the arena as they did not take pressure and ended up the first game with a comfortable margin of 21-16.
In the second game, Alfian Eko and Gloria accelerated their speed and played good badminton that helped them to stay close to their higher ranked opponents until the end of first half.
However, in the ending part of second game, the higher ranked Irfan and Weni controlled the pace of rallies by playing attacking badminton and managed to win the game with a tight margin of 21-19
The in-form Irfan and Weni won the title by defeating their compatriots in the final battle with a reasonable 21-16 and 21-19 score on the board.
