India International Challenge: Chochuwong Pornpawee stuns Simon Prutsch in second round encounter
Thailand’s Chochuwong Pornpawee stunned everyone by playing tremendous badminton in Women’s Singles second round when she toppled her higher ranked challenger Simone Prutsch of Austria in Tata Open India International Challenge 2012 in India, on Friday,
December 14.
The impressive Pornpawee, who started her campaign in this tournament as an un-seeded shuttler, turned into potential contender as she gave severe treatment to Prutsch who was the top seeded player in the Women’s Singles main draw.
Thai shuttler was in smashing form as she played with remarkable control in her shots and managed to end up this second round clash in straight games with a reasonable margin in just 25 minutes.
On the other hand, the top seeded Prutsch played to her maximum potential but she failed to stop the progress of her Thai challenger and eventually went down without any considerable trouble.
The impressive speed and powerful shots of Pornpawee assisted her to stay close to her higher ranked opponent at the initial stage of opening game.
Pornpawee proved that she has obtained top quality skills by playing positive badminton and she did not let her challenger to build even a small lead at any stage in the opening half.
Until the end of first half, both ladies stayed close on the board as they played at the same speed and maintained the pace of rallies at the highest level.
After the interval, Prutsch tried her best to play attacking badminton but failed to take charge of the game as he rival who stayed equal until 20-20.
At this stage, the lower ranked Pornpawee controlled her nerves and played with wonderful precision in all areas. She did not commit any mistake and remained successful in taking the opening game with a close margin of 22-20.
The top seeded Prutsch tried her best to play smart badminton in starting half of second set but she failed to pile up pressure on her challenger.
Pornpawee was unmatched on court and she did not face any problem in setting up a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
Thai shuttler continued putting up comfortable show in the ending part of second game and remained successful in securing the game with a decent 21-18 margin on score board.
The lofty Pornpawee remained successful in creating biggest upset of the tournament by defeating Prutsch in straight games with a close decent margin of 22-20 and 21-18.
