India Open 2012: Angga Pratama, Agung Saputra ease into quarter-finals
Men’s Doubles team Angga Pratama-Ryan Agung Saputra of Indonesia paved their path to quarter-finals of Yonex Sunrise India Open after delivering a stunner against Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong in second round on April 26, 2012.
The pre quarter-final tussle prolonged to three exhausting sets that lasted for 44 minutes for a final result of 21-14, 17-21 and 14-21.
World Number five pair Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong, who looked strong on paper, could not live up to their billing and knelt down against a low ranked couple.
On the other hand, the Indonesian campaigners proved their guts by sealing a splendid 2-1 victory over one of the hot favourites of the tournament.
In opening game of the match, Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong forged a fruitful chemistry and bagged first match point with great comfort.
The Chinese, who was second seeded pair of tournament, established their supremacy by controlling the overall pace of rallies. They first gained three-point advantage and then raised their total to 11-6 until the interval.
After mid-game break, they utilised their experience and brilliance in the game to exceed their opponents and finished first set with a 21-14 score in their favour.
However, this first set loss did not harm the Indonesian duo much as they stormed back into match with a gutsy performance in following game.
The World Number 16 pair Angga Pratama-Agung Saputra displayed commendable skills to setup an initial lead of three points and then end first half with a respectable total of 11-7.
In later part of the set, the Chinese couple tried to step forward with four consecutive points right after the break but they could not catch the leading pair until match score was levelled with 21-17 total in Indonesia’s favour.
This interesting turn saved the match from being a dead contest as both teams put all in their possession to avoid a woeful exit.
Third set started with immediate charge from Angga Pratama-Agung Saputra who placed a notable margin of 11-8 in no time.
The twosome of Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong narrowed the gap at 14-13 score after the interval but the Indonesians put their expedition to halt by registering final figures of 21-14.
Now Men’s Doubles experts Angga Pratama and Agung Saputra will meet the top Malaysian duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong in quarter-final round.
