India Open 2012: Juliane Schenk trounces Wang Shixian in quarter-finals

The biggest upset of Yonex Sunrise India Open was seen in quarter-final round when Juliane Schenk of Germany cast out hot favourite Wang Shixian to surge into semi-finals on April 27, 2012.
There was lot of drama in this epic tussle which prolonged to three sets to give final results of 21-6, 10-21 and 16-21.
The German lady Juliane displayed prime skills against her higher ranked opponent and jumped one step closer to the finals.
On the other hand, World Number three shuttler Wang Shixian had a great start but she lost her rhythm in final stages of the game and crashed out of the event.
In opening game, the Chinese shuttler unleashed her killing skills and buried her rival in just few moments.
Wang Shixian, who was top seed in the event, played attacking badminton from very first moment and established a comfortable lead of six points. She placed a decent margin of 11-3 before interval.
After mid-game break, she pushed her challenger to back foot with some powerful rallies and raised her total to 14-6.
Wang Shixian scored eight consecutive points to clinch the first set with a remarkable total of 21-6.
However, following game changed the story as Juliane stormed back and dazzled her competitor with a lustrous performance.
The German gained a five-point advantage in the beginning which helped her to setup her supremacy in the game with 11-6 figure at mid-game break.
In later part of the set, she maintained her momentum and raised her total to 15-8. Her Chinese opponent could not return from this deficit and surrendered after reading concluding margin of 21-10.
In third and final game, both players remained neck-to-neck until 8-8 but then five back-to-back points tipped the balance of match in Juliane’s favour.
These five points turned consequential as the World Number eight shuttler got into commanding position with 13-8 score on the board and then sealed a splendid victory by putting a decisive margin of 21-16.
This 2-1 victory took her into semi-final round where the German lady will face winner of quarter-final match between Korean shuttler Youn Joo Bae and the Chinese girl Xiao Jia Chen.
