India Open: Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit win Men’s Doubles title to steal the limelight
Thailand’s emerging young shuttlers Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit stole the limelight as they put on gutsy performance and won the Men’s Doubles title at the India Open Super Series 2012 on Sunday, April 29, in India.
In the final match, Issara and Jongjit toppled their higher ranked Korean opponents Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong and claimed their first ever Super Series title in a convincing fashion.
The un-seeded Issara and Jongjit played tremendous badminton in all matches of the India Open and continued their roller-coaster performance in the final as well.
The Thai shuttlers overpowered the World Number 4 Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong, who were the second seeds in the tournament.
Issara and Jongjit showed their spirited play in front of huge Indian crowd and wrapped up the title by winning the final contest in a hard-fought three games.
In the first set, Issara and Jongjit played aggressive badminton and matched the speed of their higher ranked Korean opponents in opening rallies.
They continued playing positive and aggressive game and took advantage by setting up a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Koreans tried to elevate their game by working fast at net but failed to live up to expectations in the game as their lower ranked Thai opponents were just incredible in the court.
Issara and Jongjit remained positive in the game and took the first set easily with a remarkable margin of 21-17.
In the second game, both pairs played at the same speed and also remained close on the score board in the first half.
After the break, Issara and Jongjit lost their control over the pace of rallies and eventually lost the game with a big margin of 14-21.
In the deciding set, the spirited Thai players showed their brilliance by playing attacking and positive badminton. Until the break, the Koreans were slightly behind at 10-11.
After the interval, Issara and Jongjit stretched the gap by playing incredible game from all areas of the court and eventually won the set with a remarkable 21-14 score on the board.
Issara and Jongjit won their first ever Super Series title by beating Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong in the final fight with a superb margin of 21-17, 14-21 and 21-14.
