India Open Grand Prix Gold: Eriko Hirose ousts Desi Hera in the Women’s Singles quarter-final
Japan’s Eriko Hirose has proved her superiority in the game as she has reached in the Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Indonesia’s Desi Hera in the quarter-final of the 2011 India Open Grand Prix Gold, in India, on Friday, December 23.
Hirose, who is currently placed at 19th position in the Women’s Singles world standings, displayed her elite skills and defeated her lower ranked Indonesian opponent in a rubber-set contest. She put up superb show of top quality badminton and
finished the contest by working hard for 64 minutes.
In the opening game of the match, Hirose employed her wonderful skills and finished the game with a reasonable margin. In the following set, the Indonesian elevated her play and managed to level the match by taking the second game. In the final set, the
Japanese played on a completely different level and won it with a striking difference.
Both shuttlers played well until the score reached at 5-5. The Japanese accelerated her speed at this stage and started to play an attacking badminton. She reached at 11-6 until the break in the first game. After the break, she continued her impressive performance
and did not face any considerable resistance throughout the set and won it by a margin of 21-17.
In the following set, Hera stunned the higher ranked Japanese by playing on a completely different level. The Japanese tried to remain focused but failed as her opponent spared no room for her to fight back in the second set. Hirose lost the game after trailing
behind with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, the both ladies played competitive badminton in the opening rallies and reached at 5-5. Hirose accelerated her speed and managed to establish superb lead. She was focused in the game and did not show any mercy to her Indonesian challenger.
The Japanese finished up the deciding game with a huge difference of 21-11. The overall result of this Women’s Singles fight was 21-17, 17-21 and 21-11.
In the semi-final, Hirose will face Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand who has overpowered her team-mate Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the other quarter-final showdown.
