India Open: Han’s Kristian Vittinghus ousts Wei Feng Chong in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Denmark’s young and talented player Hans Kristian Vittinghus secured his place in Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong in the round-of-16 at the India Open Super Series 2012 on Thursday, April 26, in India.
Vittinghus, who has been positioned at number 16 in the Men’s Singles world placements, had to work hard to overpower his lower ranked Malaysian opponent and advanced into the top-eight stage.
The young Danish consumed 46 minutes in the court to register victory over Wei Feng in an impressive fashion.
On the other hand, Wei Feng played at his maximum speed and snatched a game before losing to his higher ranked Danish challenger in a wonderful rubber-set contest.
Both shuttlers played good badminton in the opening points and also remained close. However it was Vittinghus who occupied the driving seat by increasing his speed at net.
In the meanwhile, Wei Feng could not produce aggressive shots and also failed to destroy the defence of Vittinghus who was impressive in his tactical play.
Until the one-minute interval, Vittinghus proved his superior position in the court by taking a reasonable lead on the board.
After the break, Wei Feng tried to manipulate the loopholes of his opponent but failed to break the flow of Vittinghus who was quicker in taking points.
Vittinghus played with precision in the entire first game and took it impressively with a 21-13 score on the board.
In the second game, Vittinghus lost his focus and also dropped down his speed which helped Wei Feng to take a wonderful lead until the break.
After the interval, Vittinghus continued playing quivering badminton and eventually lost the set with a one-sided 8-21 score on the board.
In the decider, Vittinghus changed his tactics and started to dominate the pace while working well at the net. He managed to remain ahead of Wei Feng on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Vittinghus continued his positive and planned game and took the set with a huge difference of 21-12.
The Danish shuttler won this pre-quarter-final contest against Wei Feng with a margin of 21-13, 8-21 and 21-12.
