However, in their meeting at the India Open, the World Number 27 Jayaram managed to prove his worth by dominating the pace of rallies and ended the match in rubber games.
Sourabh played well and also took the second set but failed to manipulate the loopholes of his higher ranked compatriot in the deciding game and bowed down to him with a decent margin.
The in-form Jayaram overpowered Sourabh after an interesting fight and took the contest with an entertaining margin of 21-15, 17-21 and 21-11.

He said, "I was under pressure going into the match. I knew it would be a tough match and I had to work hard to win it and I am glad that I could do the job. I tried too many things in the second game. Actually I was in a hurry to finish the match but I
calmed myself down in time during the third game."
He added, "Sourabh is very solid in his defence and it is better to finish off the match in two games. I knew that I have to take the initiative in the match."
In the Men’s Singles second round, Jayaram will be up against the top seed and World Number One Lee Chong Wei who tamed Hsuan Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei in his opening round clash.
