India Open Super Series: Jiang Yanjiao narrowly beats P. V. Sindhu in Women’s Singles quarter-final
China’s talented player Jiang Yanjiao struggled hard in the quarter-final match when she narrowly defeated India’s P. V. Sindhu at the India Open Super Series 2012 on Friday, April 27, in India.
The World Number 7 Yanjiao, who is the fourth seed in Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament, had to dig into her arsenal to overpower the lower ranked local opponent who was impressive in the court.
The higher ranked Chinese lady lost the opening set but powered her way back by taking the second game. She also managed to win the final set with a decent score on the board.
On the other hand, Sindhu put up superb show and entertained her home fans by playing remarkable badminton.
However, the spirited Indian failed to play well in the ending points of the match and lost this three-set contest with a respectable margin on the board.
In the opening set, Sindhu was the first to take lead from the opening points and she maintained it in the whole first half.
Until the break in this Women’s Singles first set, Sindhu was leading with a decent margin.
After the break, Yanjiao played fast badminton and remained successful in ending the deficit by reaching at 17-17.
However, she failed to play positive badminton at this crucial stage and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the second set, Yanjiao took over the control from Sindhu in a superb fashion and established a remarkable lead until the break.
After the interval, Yanjiao continued playing elevated badminton against Sindhu and did not let her to fight back in the game. She took the second set with an impressive 21-12 score on the board.
In the decider, Yanjiao remained ahead of her India opponent in the opening half and remained slightly ahead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Chinese lady continued her dominating run without letting her opponent to level the score at any stage.
Yanjiao ended the deciding set with a decent 21-18 margin on the score board.
The Chinese grabbed this quarter-final victory in hard-fought three games with a margin of 18-21, 21-12 and 21-18.
