India U-19 team boosted by “positive” interaction with Sachin Tendulkar – Cricket News Update
India Under-19s skipper Unmukt Chand has stated that the team is on a positive frame of mind after having had a constructive and encouraging session with veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 U19 Cricket World Cup, due to
be played in Australia from August 11 to 26.
“We interacted with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607. He tried to give a lot of positive feedback and shared with us some of the experiences he had in the past 20 years,” said Chand. “He spoke on World Cup and on the pressure. He told us to be ourselves on field and not worry about
other things. So it was very good for us.”
Tendulkar, a veteran of 188 Tests (with 15470 runs to his credit) and 463 ODIs (18426 runs), in addition to having accomplished feats such as a 100 international centuries, emerges as an ideal candidate to motivate the Under-19s as they head into the mega
event.
In addition to receiving a pep talk from the star batsman, the U-19 team, which leaves for Australia today, has also had a fair amount of match practice which should serve them well in the World Cup.
India hosted the West Indies, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 U-19 team at
Visakhapatnam on October 9, which they won by a margin of 5 runs.
The event was followed by another Quadrangular Under-19 Series in April this year, between the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, and England U-19 teams, held in Australia. Although they failed to win any of the initial three matches they played, Chand’s team
won the semi-final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, and went on to win the series after defeating their hosts by 7 wickets at Townsville on April 15.
Their most recent tournament was the Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup which culminated in a tie between the India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 U-19 teams. Judging by their recent performances, the Indian team appears to be in good shape, and Chand has insisted that
they will do their best to live up to the country’s expectations.
“It is a new experience for us and it is a new tournament for us,” Chand said. “We will take it as a new stepping stone in our career and try to do well for our country.”
The team's first World Cup match is due to be played against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium in Townsville on August 12.
