India U-19s clicked when it mattered the most: BCCI – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) has lauded the efforts of the national Under-19 team, praising the hard work they put into their performances to come out on top and lift the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy this year.
“The players have worked very hard for this and they deserve all the success. We at BCCI tried to provide them every facility, guidance and exposure at the right time. Credit to them that they clicked when it mattered the most,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjay-Madansingh-Jagdale-c88599, BCCI
secretary, in conversation with TOI.
The India U-19 team went into the World cup riding on a string of past successes. After having won a Quadrangular Under-19 Series on home ground against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 U-19s in September/October last year, they went on to win a
similar Quadrangular tournament Down Under earlier this year in April, against the Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 U-19s.
The Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup, held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Under-19s – all of which made for excellent preparation prior to the U-19 World Cup.
With the India U-19s having won the cup twice before (in 2000 under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737), the current team found themselves faced with the challenge of continuing their winning streak into the world event.
While they got off to a wobbly start with a 4-wicket defeat at the hands of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 U-19s in their first WC match, the team managed to bounce back spectacularly, winning all of their Group C matches, and continuing in a similar vein during the latter
stages of the tournament.
A quarter-final against the Pakistan U-19s resulted in a 1-wicket win for skipper Unmukt Chand’s side, while a semi-final played against the New Zealand U-19s culminated in a 9-run victory for India. The ultimate glory came in the final match against the
Australia U-19s, with the India U-19s defeating their hosts by 6-wickets in their own backyard, and going on to claim the title for the third time in history.
In addition to the BCCI’s praise, the achievement has earned the team accolades from all quarters, from Indian stars such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625
president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-Raymond-Isaac-c42771.
