India Under-19s v Papua New Guinea Under-19s – ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 – (22nd Match - Group C) – Match Update
Medium-pacer Ravikant Singh claimed a vital 5-wicket haul to restrict the Papua New Guinea Under-19s to a double-digit total, enabling the India Under-19s to claim a massive 107-run win during their http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012 match at Endeavour Park in
Townsville, today on August 16.
The India U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, with Prashant Chopra (58) and skipper Unmukt Chand (4) opening for their side. Chand was sent packing in the second over by Chad Soper (7.1-0-32-5), who went on to make major dents in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 U-19
batting order.
Chand was followed to the pavilion by Baba Aparajith (14) who was run out in the 10th over, and the fall of wickets continued with Hanuma Vihari (6) who was dismissed, lbw, by  Toua Tom (10-1-26-2) in the 16th over.
Coming in at number 5, Vijay Zol top-scored for his side with 72, and followed up his 22-run stand with Chopra (which came to an end in the 23rd over after Chopra was bowled by Vagi Morea), with an 82-run 6th-wicket partnership with
wicketkeeper batsman Smit Patel (30). By the time http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 was sent back to the pavilion by Raymond Haoda in the 39th over, the team had reached a total of 180 for 6.
Sensing a vulnerable lower order, Soper struck thrice, dismissing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 Passi (0), Vikas Mishra (0), and Ravikant Singh (3), reducing the India U-19s to 197 for 9 by the 44th over. Zol chipped in with an extra burst to take the team up to a final
total of 204 before he was caught out by wicketkeeper Dogodo Bau off Soper in the 46th over.
Although they managed to bowl out a formidable batting opposition, the Papua New Guinea U-19s were unable to follow up their performance with an equally efficient batting display, hampered as they were by Player of the Match http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravikant-c84210 Singh (9-2-21-5), Passi
(6-1-18-2), and Aparajith (5.5-2-16-2).
Only three batsmen – wicketkeeper batsman Dogodo Bau (14), skipper Christopher http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charles-Amini-c49702 (28) – managed to reach double-digit scores, while the remainder of the batting order chipped in with meagre contributions. Unable to withstand the
Indian assault, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002 U-19s finished at 97, all out, in the 32nd over – 107 runs short of their target.
The victory enabled the India U-19s to claim second spot in Group C, and they will now be preparing to face off against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium on August 20.
