India Under-19s v Sri Lanka Under-19s – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup (Warm-Up Match) – Match Update
Compensating for a mediocre batting display with an intense bowling performance courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 Passi, Vikas Mishra, and Baba Aparajith, the India Under-19s secured a 33-run win over the Sri Lanka Under-19s during their ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match,
played at the Bill Albury Oval in Brisbane today on August 7.
The India U-19s won the toss, and chose to bat first, with skipper Unmukt Chand (7) opening the innings for his team, alongside Akhil Herwadkar (13). However, they got off to a shaky start as the 10th over saw Chamod Pathirana (7-1-13-2) claiming
two wickets – Chand, followed by Aparajith who was dismissed on duck.
Opener Herwadkar was sent packing in the 15th over by Lahiru Madushanka (10-2-28-2), but India found some stability in the 4th-wicket 98-run stand between Hanuma Vihari (64) and Vijay Zol (43). Their partnership enabled their side to
reach 130 by the 37th over, after which Zol was caught out by Tharindu Kaushal off Amila Aponso.
Following Vihari’s departure in the very next over off skipper Sanitha de Mel (9-0-44-2), the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 U-19s were unable to get the innings back on track. Akshdeep Nath (2) and Sandipan Das (4) did not manage to apply themselves at the crease, while Prashant
Chopra surrendered to Madushanka after a 10-run contribution, leaving his side at 161 for 8 in the 46th over.
An unbeaten 9th wicket partnership worth 30 runs, between wicketkeeper Smit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 (16) and Rush Kalaria (21), enabled the India U-19s to post a final total of 191 by the end of 50 overs.
However, the bowling attack emerged as the India U-19s’ saving grace, enabling them to compensate for the average batting performances, restricting the Sri Lanka U-19s to 158, all out.
Sebastian Perera (1) and Pabasara Waduge (33) opened the innings for their side, but the former fell prey to Passi (8-1-34-3) in the 6th over. He was followed to the crease by Shehan Fernando (9), who did not prove to be any more effective, bowled
by Mishra (8-1-30-2) in the 14th over.
Angelo Jayasinghe was the mainstay of his team’s innings, scoring a valiant unbeaten 64 which eventually went in vain, owing to the lack of effective batting partners. With the exception of Kaushal (16), the remainder of the batting order were unable to
register double digit individual scores.
Following Waduge’s dismissal by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 U-19s underwent a complete batting order collapse.
Sandun Weerakkody (5) and wicketkeeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella (6) were sent packing by Mishra and Aparajith (10-1-30-2) respectively, and Pulina Tharanga (4), Madushanka (6), Kaushal (16), de Mel (0), and Aponso (9) all followed suit. The Sri Lanka U-19s
were eventually cut off, all out, at 158 in the 46th over – 33 runs short of their target.
