India Under-19s v Zimbabwe Under-19s – ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 – (15th Match - Group C) – Match Update
A half-ton by skipper Unmukt Chand, followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium in
Townsville.
Zimbabwe won the toss and put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to bat, with skipper Chand (78) and Prashant Chopra (57) opening for their side. Their partnership of 139 runs set up a solid foundation for the team to build upon, after Chopra was caught and bowled by Malcolm Lake in
the 27th over.
Chand followed soon after in the 30th over, caught out by Curthbert Musoko off Peacemore Zimwa. However, the next batting duo of Baba Aparajith (24) and Hanuma Vihari (21) continued in a similar vein, setting up a 53-run partnership which got
their side up to 201 by the 42nd over.
Both batsmen were dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 (7*),
and Passi (24*) enabled the team to post a final total of 261 by the end of 50 overs, at the expense of 6 wickets.
Zimbabwe’s innings were highlighted by a valiant century by Lake (118), but his exertions alone could not save his team – with the exception of Luke Jongwe (29), none of the batsmen managed to register double-digit scores, and Player of the Match Passi (8.1-1-23-6)
went on a rampage which saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 ending, all out, at 198.
The top four – Kevin Kasuza (4), Luke Masasire (6), skipper Matthew Bentley (8), and Ryan Burl (9) – were all dismissed by Passi without putting up much of a fight. Coming in at number 4, centurion Lake provided some much needed stability to his team’s innings.
His 87-run 5th-wicket partnership with Jongwe, followed by a 7th-wicket 47-run stand with wicketkeeper batsman Nyasha Mayavo (8), got the team up to 168 by the 38th over.
However, the remainder of the batting order – Light (1), Zimwa (3) and Kyle Bowie (0) – all registered disappointing scores, and the dismissal of Lake at the hands of Passi in the 45th over saw the Zimbabwe U-19s finishing, all out, at 198 – 63
runs short of their target.
