India White pockets Women 100m breaststroke gold: Day one – 2012 NSW Metropolitan Championships
India White of BAYS pocketed the crown of Long Course 100m breaststroke discipline in Women 14 Year Olds age class on primary day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) Metropolitan Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday, March 3.
White confronted strong competition from Shannon Ashton of AQBN in the 100m discipline but with her intellectual efforts, she outperformed her on the finishing end for gold medal. Both swimmers remained engage in a neck-to-neck race throughout the event
whereas White gained slight advantage over her strongest challenger in the final lap and reached the podium for gold medal.
The 14-year-old White was the first swimmer to jump off from the starting blocks. With her unimaginable pace, she remained nearly one stroke ahead of Ashton in the first lap and reported a time of 36.27 seconds. She was trailed by Ashton, who was just 0.09
seconds behind and enveloped the equivalent distance with an effort of 36.36 seconds.
Ashton was chased by Kate Diamond of LIVP, who was 0.87 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and ended her initial half with the timing of 37.23 seconds.
White continued her relentless efforts in the second half, where she completed her race in a time of 40.44 seconds to post 1 minute and 16.71 seconds for gold medal. Her gold winning effort was just 0.51 seconds above the mark of CARL’s Ami Matsuo, who clocked
1 minute and 16.20 seconds to win gold medal of the same event in 2010.
Nonetheless, the champion remained 0.25 seconds ahead of Ashton, who followed her on the podium for silver medal by clocking a second fastest effort of 1 minute and 16.96 seconds. In the meantime, Diamond proved her eligibility for the third finest spot
of the race as she ended her race with the timing of 1 minute and 17.30 seconds.
White was delighted with her nerve-wrecking form in the breaststroke discipline and aroused hopes of her supporters by expressing that she will try harder to achieve the same at higher levels of swimming. Furthermore, the championship will conclude on Sunday,
March 4 after the conclusion of all events.
