After having suffered a humiliating 221-run defeat at the hands of the rampaging visitors in the previous bout, the host team was eager to win at least once in the series, and salvage some pride on home ground. They won the toss and elected to bat.

lower-order batter with a 16-run contribution, and the Indian side finished on 175 at the end of 50 overs.
