Following up a dismal batting performance with an intense bowling attack, the Pakistan Women claimed a narrow 1-run victory over the India Women in their final Group A match during the ongoing ICC Women’s World Twenty20, 2012, played at the Galle International Stadium today on October 1.
With both teams having failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament, the match served as little more than a determinant of which teams they will be facing in the play-offs on October 3 in Colombo – the Pakistan Women will be playing the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Women at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jhulan-Goswami-c66974 (4-1-16-2), and Anuja Patil (2-0-16-2) launched an effective attack which saw the Pakistan Women cut off at 98 by the end of 20 overs.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bismah-Maroof-c48136 on 3, leaving the team at 46 for 3.
The mediocre performances continued, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asmavia-Iqbal-c46564 (10) remained the only other batter who managed to contribute a double-digit score (albeit a paltry one), and the rest of the batting order fell without putting up much of a fight.
Nida Dar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marina-Iqbal-c74453 remained unbeaten on 9, but by the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, the Pakistan Women only managed to post a final total of 98.
The India Women came close to chasing the target down successfully, but found themselves cut off, one-run short, owing mostly to the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nida-Rashid-Dar-c79512 (4-0-12-3), and Bismah Maroof (4-0-18-2).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mayank-Goswami-c75433 (21) were the only batters who managed to contribute double-digit scores, but the remainder of the batting order were unable to support their efforts. By the final over, with Niranjana and Patil at the crease, the India Women required 14 from 6 balls.
While Niranjana smashed a four off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 Women cut off, frustratingly, at 97.
