India announce provisional squad for ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has submitted its provisional 30-member squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 U-19 Cricket World Cup, to be held in Australia in August this year, confirmed the International Cricket Council on Monday.
India’s provisional squad features nine players with first-class experience, including Unmukt Chand, Ravi Singh, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chirag-Gulshan-Khurana-c50617, Aparajith Baba, Manan Vohra, Vikas Mishra and Kumar Deobrat.
Delhi-born fast bowler, Vikas Mishars is the most experienced player in the provisional squad, with 55 first-class wickets from 15 appearances for Delhi.
Mishra’s Delhi teammate, Chand, who was earlier this month named as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s skipper for the Under-19 Asia Cup, is the most high-profile member in the U-19 squad. He has led India at various occasions in the past, most recently at
the Emerging Players Tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where he played an unbeaten century knock in the final against hosts, to clinch the trophy.
To date Chand has played 11 first-class matches and averages 43.41 with the bat. The 19-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 top-order batsman played for Delhi Daredevils in the recently concluded season five of Indian Premier League. Though BCCI has not
yet named a captain for the esteemed tournament, Chand is likely to be retained.
As per ICC provisions, the participating teams must name their provisional squads 60 days prior to the tournament and final squads must reach the ICC U-19 World Cup organizing committee 30 days before the first match, July 11, 2012
in this case.
A total of 16 teams, ten full members and six qualifiers, will compete in this year’s U-19 Cricket World Cup, where hosts Australia will be defending the title. The tournament gets underway in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 from August 11 and will run
till August 26.
