India are thinking of playing 5 bowlers.?

Do you think india should and would play 5 bowlers. kumble and the mangament are thinking of playing 5 bowlers, as Karthick made a 58*, and therefore has opended the batting before, and india might play 5 bowlers.

The team may look like this

I always wanted india to play 5 bowlers, as that will give them more of a chance to win matches.

However do you think Playing 5 bowlers is the right idea, and dhould gambhir be given another chance.

Your team selection almost guaranttes loss for the team india. I don't expect too much from Karthik and dravid & Laxman can't score more than 60 rund between them. That leaves the scoring pressure on Sehwag, Sachin, and Ganguli. Suppose one ot two batsmen fail them? All Kumble, Bhajji. Khna, Singh, and Ishant all combined can't score more than 100 runs and that means the total will be about 225 runs.

In a test match, winning is dependent on capturing 20 wickets of the other team. I would feel that India may use 5 bowlers to capture 20 wickets. Zaheer, Kumble, Harbhajan, Ishant, RP Singh, Pathan, Virender, Ganguly and Tendulkar will have to bowl well and all these 9 bowlers together have the ability to take 24 wickets per match which is good enough for Anil to plan. Lanka should think of Murali, Vaas, Welegedara, Mirando, Malinga and Fenando to take 20 wickets but then since Ajantha will come in, they will not need Malinga and Fernando.

India has a good enough batting attack to play with five bowlers. Using Pathan, Karthik and Agarkar on the team would give India a strong tail, which could be useful if the top order collapses.

Sadly, India seems to have abandoned Ajit Agarkar so they'd never use him.

no they do not need five bowlers because we need to give Gautam Gambir a chance to play test cricket and he is h**l of a good ODI player.... so why not he can't play tests....

I din't think it would be a good idea to play 5 bowlers because----------

1. The Sri Lankan pitches would mostly favour the batsman (& the spinners off-course).

2. India always feels comfortable to play 7 batsmen with 4 bowlers, so they should not try something new in such a important series.

3. There are so many good & experienced part-timers(Sachin, sourav, sehwag), that India doesn't need the xtra 5th one........................................
