Less than a week after having replaced South Africa as the No. 2 side on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s ODI team rankings, India have moved back to No. 3 position, as the International Cricket Council updated its ranking tables on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
The World Champions on Sunday earned the promotion on ODI rankings table after beating Sri Lanka 4-1 in the five-match One Day International series, and were eying the top spot before ICC’s annual revision of rankings pushed them back
to third spot.
The International Cricket Council updates its ranking tables in August every year to reflect recent form of the teams. The ICC rankings revealed on Wednesday included results from matches played after August 2010. The older results
from between August 2009 and July 2010 have been excluded from the updated tables, hence omitting Australia’s successful run of 30 wins in 40 matches in 2009-10.
The annual update of the tables also allowed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, at the top of the ODI rankings, ending their three-year dominance in the fifty over format.
The mighty Aussies, who had reached the top of the ICC ODI ranking table in September 2009, and remained their consistently for the past three years, dropped down to number four, their lowest ever ranking.
Moreover, this is the first time Alastair Cook-led English team has been recognized as the top ranked one-day side since the inception of ICC team ranking tables in 2002. The Poms have 121 rating points, closely followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757,
while MS Dhoni’s Men in Blue are placed third with 120 points. The once mighty Aussies trail India by eight rating points.
The annual update has not affected the positions of the teams ranked fifth and below, as it continues to seem like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752.
The T20 rankings have also changed, with the Proteas replacing the T20 Champions, England as the top side in the shortest format of the game, trailing the table http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-Donald-Topley-c93395 closely with only one rating-point difference.
Sri Lanka are ranked No. 3, with 119 rating points, followed by India (111) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 find themselves sixth on the standings while the mighty Aussies are ranked ninth, ahead of only Ireland
and Zimbabwe.
