India beat the West Indies in the First Test at Kingston, Jamaica
After having four sensational days of Test cricket, the world champions India beat the hosts West Indies in the first Test off a three-match series by 63-runs at Kingston, Jamaica.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, who needed just 195 runs to win with only three wickets down, failed to show wits against the mighty bowling of the Indians, who never gave any chance to the hosts to dominate the day.
Earlier, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 beginning the day for the West Indies, there was every chance for the home side to earn a victory and for as long as the two batsmen were batting it seemed as if the Indians were going
to have to face their first defeat in Test cricket after winning the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 world cup 2011 in April.
Nonetheless, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the Indian skipper was not going to give up that easily and knew that the tourists just needed to penetrate the defences of the two batsmen and then the hosts were going to crumble as they did not have the depth in the
batting line-up to survive after the dismissal of Bravo and Chanderpaul.
The two batsmen crafted the second highest partnership in the match by knocking 68-runs in the fourth-wicket partnership. However, just when things seemed to be getting out of India’s hands, their ace striker http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143 bowled Bravo on a superb delivery
that rammed right into the stumps of the batsman after he had scored 41-runs. The Indian players were overwhelmed by this breakthrough as they knew it was time to tighten up on the opposition to snatch their first test victory of the year.
In his next over, Kumar struck gold by taking the wicket of Chanderpaul who was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539 at cover. The batsman smacked an innings of 30 runs.
The sight of Chanderpaul walking back was an obvious disappointment for the West Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, who knew that going for a win was now as tough as it could get.
Before things could get any worse, wicketkeeper/ batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453.
Skipper Sammy then departed after giving a catch to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871. Sammy contributed 25 runs in the total tally.
Later http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 bowled out the hosts well short of the required total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 was named as the man of the match for his magnificent second innings knock of 112 runs.
The two teams will now face each other on 28 June, 2011 in the second Test at Bridgetown.
