because they only play cricket and they dont try playing new sports such as basketball, baseball, boxing..etc

India is more of a spiritual country: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, etc.They just focus their energies where its needed. Whether it be school for their children or bettering their relationship with God. They love cricket and soccer.

P.S.: You are complaining about India winning only 3 medals?? There are countries that won only one medal, so why aren't you whining about Ecuador, Iceland, Malaysia, South Africa, Singapore, Sudan, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Egypt, Israel, Rep of Moldova, Mauritius, Togo and Venezuela.

Just like India these countries sent their best to become Olympians.

well yea,china is leading in population and also at sports.. but wheares india is 2nd in population and suppose to be 2nd at sports as well.but india is at 51 rank.why???

i think the major reason for that is "CORRUPTION IN EVERYTHING"

not only at sports but in everything..oppurtunities are being blocked 4 the players who can perform very well... i think the government have 2 take serious steps in vanishing corruption and spreading education--prevent iiliteracy,,,give more employment. (this is what is speaken by indians outside india).. we gota learn more 4rm other countries... china and india are the worlds highest population..why china can be economywise 4th rank in the whole world wheares india is somewhere in mid 40's...the conclusion im trying to draw here is before the london olympics the government must

1.vanish corruption

2.employment (to achieve higher rankings in economy)

3.more opportunity

4.invest more money...

and sure within 4 years the country will improve in economy as well as sports and not 2 wonder if we stand first in the medal tally.

and the whole world speaks about us that we have achieved both in economy as well as sports..... THIS NOT ONLY FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO THINK...BUT ALSO THE PEOPLE....more awarness must be created on people first and then if they follow at least the steps i mentioned above im sure india will become better and if it follows on may be best in the world...

Yes, and Australia with 1/15th the population of the US won almost half as many medals.  I guess that means Aussies are 7 times better athletes than Americans according to your figures.

Jessica's math skills let her down again (or is that her public education system)?  Australia won 4 times as many medals per person than Canada.  Canada won almost twice as many medals per person than the US.

Well, yes, India is the 2nd largest populated country in the World. That is a fact. However, China, USA, Brasil, and Russia (the others in the top 5 populated) are vastly more wealthy. India is a very poor nation, and I'm sure an Olympic training program is last on the governments list of things to worry about. It's just economics.
