The most recent tours of India, where they played against competitive teams, were against South Africa and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
The Men in Blue managed to level the two match series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 by 1-1, but lost to the Poms by a humiliating margin of 0-4. Let’s take a look at their performance in both these tours.
Before the start of the South African series, the Indian side was expected to struggle as the team had only won three ODIs and a single test match in the country. The first test match proved to be the same for the visitors like it has been in the past but
the men-in-blue bounced back to level the series 1-1.
Similarly, the Indian team didn’t start well in the ODI series as they lost the first match at Durban by a huge margin of 135 runs. The team was on a verge of a second consecutive defeat in the second ODI but Munaf Patel helped his team seal a one-run victory.
The visitors were again in a very bad situation in the third match but this time their flamboyant batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815 came to the rescue. He scored a match-winning half century to give his team a win by 2 wickets.
Although the Indian team had been hampered by injury problems, the youngsters had not given-up hope and supported the seniors in the team to do well.
The visitors looked vulnerable in the bowling department before the start of the series but inspiring performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 gave the team a strong hold in the series.
The only weak link in the Indian bowling was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Nehra-c873, but the part-time bowlers did well for India to provide cover.
Three of the top Indian batsmen were out of the ODI series due to injury problems. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 sustained an injury during the second ODI and returned to India.
This probably proved to be a turning point for the hosts, as they went onto win the last two matches of the series, claiming the series by 3-2.
After this tour, the Men in Blue went to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, but managed to defeat the opposition comfortably.
However, their real test was against England, this side which was playing excellent cricket in all three formats of the game.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and his men were expected to struggle against the Poms and went onto losing the every single game on the tour.
The World Champions will be hoping of a competitive show against Australia, but they will have to work extremely hard to overcome them in the four-match Test series.
