India defeats Egypt by 3-0 in FIVB Men´s Junior World Championship
India and Egypt played against each other at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The country is hosting the FIVB Men´s Junior World Championship. The match between the two teams was a decider for the second place in Pool C which was secured
by the Indians in a clean sweep over the Egyptian squad. Not only did the South Asian team win the match in three back to back sets, each set of the match was won by a comfortable margin.
The first set was fairly one sided as the Egyptians struggled with their game. After losing the opening set, the Egyptians showed some signs of life in the second set but lost it in the end to the better performance of the Indian team. The Egyptians put
in a half-hearted effort in the third set of the game which enabled the Indians to make an easy match win at the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18.
The coach of the Indian team, M.H. Kumara, made the following comments at the press conference after the match: “I am very glad as we advanced for the second round for the second time in the country´s history. The mental side is very important in volleyball
and our team was very calm for this match. We blocked very well, especially Vaishnav.”
On the other hand, the Egyptian coach expressed himself in the following manner: “Our captain Mustafa Idris had a physical problem and could not play for a long time, so I needed to replace him. About the match, I can say we made many mistakes, especially
in receiving.”
The start of the opening set saw the Egyptians leading at 11-8 but it was not long before the Indians got the lead themselves at 16-11. The Indians were able to extend their advantage to 21-13 and the Egyptians were still trailing behind as the Indians bagged
the opening set of the game at 25-17.
The second set saw the Subcontinent team coming out strong as they kept the lead with themselves at 8-5 when the first technical time out was reached. The Indians did not let go of the advantage and kept extending it at 13-5. It was only a matter of time
before the Asian squad had earned another win at 25-19.
The third set of the game had the Indian seal on it from the start as the Egyptians played with no fight left in them. As a result, the set was secured by India at 25-18.
The player that was able to make the most score in both the teams was Dhanabalan Selvaprabhu as he tallied 15 points. The Egyptian that stood prominent in his team was Eslam El Hassan, who registered 11 points.
