India defeats Pakistan by 3-2 in Pool E match of 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
The Pool E matches of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship took place on September 26 for the 1 to 8 classification round of the tournament. India squeaked past Pakistan by 3-2 at Azadi Hall No.1 in Tehran, Iran, in what was a very close match.
The two rival teams gave it all their best and took the match to five long and thrilling sets. The first two sets of the match were neck to neck until the very end. The Indians were successful in bagging them both and getting a 2-0 advantage. The Pakistanis
did not take the defeats well and responded by coming out strong in the third and fourth sets, winning each one with quite a margin. The fifth set of the match was exciting as the Indians proved to be the better side and they sealed the deal on the match at
the following final set scores: 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25 and 15-13.
The first set of the match saw the Indians taking the lead early on at 11-5. This was mainly due to the strong attacking skills of the Indians and the weak defence that Pakistan put up in response. The blocks of the Pakistanis were not up to the mark which
enabled the Indians to stretch their advantage. However, the Pakistanis were able to learn from their mistakes and improve their blocks to stop the Indians from coasting ahead. By the time the second technical time out was called, the Pakistanis were able
to close in the gap at 16-13. After the two teams came back onto the courts, the Pakistanis were able to get the lead for the first time in the set. However, the Indians did not let them get away with the advantage and swung the match in their favour to win
the opening set at 25-23.
The second set of the game saw the Pakistanis doing a good job with their defence and giving the Indians a hard time at scoring points. The match was tied at 9-9 but as the game progressed, the Pakistanis were able to take a one point lead. As the set reached
its final stages, the Pakistanis fell to making errors that gave the Indians leverage and the win at 25-23.
The Indians were leading at 8-5 in the third set but the Pakistanis were able to tie the score at 8-8. From then on, the Pakistanis were able to take the lead at 14-12 and march ahead towards a win at 25-19. The fourth set started off with both the teams
level but the Pakistanis got into control and got a set win eventually at 25-18.
