India draws match against Australia on day 3 of the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup
India managed a 1-1 draw against Australia at the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, held on the third day at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia on May 08.
The first half of play ended with the two teams holding a one-all dead-lock with them to the side-lines. Brent Dancer notched the goal for Australia while Rupinder managed it for the Indian team. The two sides earned plenty of chances to get a go-ahead goal,
but failed to do so.
In the second half, Australia continued the dominance in the ball possession. Arjun committed a foul and awarded Australia their fourth short-corner in the 40th minute. However, the Indian goalie made a brilliant save and blocked the shot from
Brett Dancer.
Jason Wilson found himself alone before the empty goal, but he failed to trap the speedy pass from Simon Orchard inside the circle. Arjun took the ball at the top of the D, but Chandi failed to chase the ball perfectly and missed the golden chance. Meanwhile,
Simon Orchard failed to take a go-ahead goal after he missed a free-shot in the 50th minute.
The two sides were playing a very fast game in order to obtain the leading goal. The 20 minutes of play in the second half comprised of attacks and counter-attacks and both teams were showing stiff defence in order to keep them in the game.
The Indians started more defensive game against the attacking Aussies. With 60 minutes on the clock, the two teams are trying to get the elusive second point.
Simon Orchard unleashed a scooping shot into the goal, but it was not credited for a score, as it was struck from outside the circle. Rupinder Pal was awarded a yellow-card in the 64th minute of the game.
With five minutes left on the clock, the Kookaburras received their fifth short-corner of the game, but the Indian goalie blocked the ball and cleared from the circle. During the remaining minutes of the match, both sides failed to score the goal and match
concluded with a 1-1 draw.
The next match is to be contested between Pakistan and South Korea. This will be the third game for both teams of this Malaysia-based tournament.
