India earns support as it struggles to overcome the potential health issues at CWG
The claims of providing perfect health facilities to the athletes by India couldn’t have been gotten worst as the chief medical officer for the event has been suspected with typhoid. Moreover, at athletes’ village cases of diarrhoea, vomiting and dengue are on rise, as around a dozen athletes have been kept in isolation under medical supervision. However, the management is putting its best efforts to mitigate the health issues. In and outside the camp one sees workmen sprucing every corner to its best. This has not only helped in controlling some of the frequent health problems which were initially encountered in the athletes’ village, but has also showcased the image of a country which is striving to depict the best of its hospitability. Perhaps these are the sincere efforts from the Indian side which has helped it overcome the severe criticism it has been receiving since it announced to host the event.
India succeeded in making its first positive impression regarding Delhi Commonwealth when it conducted a marvellous opening ceremony where spectators were stunned with the marvellous performance of artists. Though some critics lamented the fact that many senior and heart favourite athletes did not show up in the event, but the contingents from altogether 71 countries showed their trust and faith by representing their respective nations on the grand event.
While countering the critics, the management of Delhi Commonwealth Games said that instead of dwelling upon who is not attending the event, they should show more concern for the athletes who have helped them in making it possible to organize the prestigious event by ensuring their presence. It was revealed that in the presence of athletes like Rebecca Adlington from England, and three-time Olympic champion Leisel Jones from Australia, the event would have many reasons to cause thrill among the spectators. Some other renowned names that would be competing for the titles in the games include, Mark Cavendish from Britain, Nicole Cooke from Wales, Dai Greene from Wales, and Andy Turner from England. The officials of the management particularly highlighted Mick Gault’s name, the renowned English shooter, who if wins, would become most celebrated Commonwealth Games athlete ever.
While sharing his views, Mike Fennell, the president of Commonwealth Games said that India is a country with the population of over one billion, and also is the fastest expanding economy in the world. “If India does not have the right or the capacity to hold an event like Commonwealth games, than who else does?” he lamented.
Mr. Fennell further said that if the largest Commonwealth country requested for an acceptable offer, there was no reason it should have been denied. He said that he was confused why countries did not trust the organization here, while they trusted it at any other place in the world. He further shared that he had found people at India were quite cooperative; however, they had their own way of doing the things.
With help coming in for India from such respected level along with its best efforts in becoming visible for the world to facilitate the players in the best ways ever, there is no reason the country would not be able to get rid of negative image which was initially displayed before the world in context of organizing the Commonwealth Games at Delhi. In order to further boost its positive image, India needs to keep up with its efforts to facilitate the athletes according to the world class laid standards as well as upon highlighting the positive points, which fortunately the country still possess. It should also be realized by the visiting nations that being a third world country, India is putting its efforts to display its good image. Instead of criticizing, the world must appreciate its relentless efforts.
