India eye series whitewash, as New Zealand collapse once again
The fifth and final one-day international between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 could end before the innings break, as New Zealand were bowled out for just 103 runs in 27 overs.
Things had started to look up for New Zealand after they scored a decent 300 run plus total in the fourth match of the series. Although the Kiwis were unable to win the match, they would have hoped to at least repeat the good batting performance of the last
match.
After winning the toss, the New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori decided to bat first in overcast conditions. The visitors could not have anticipated a worse start, when Martin Guptill was dismissed for a duck in the first over of the innings.
Brendon McCullum looked in good touch, as he quickly raced to 14 runs with the help of three cracking boundaries. His good touch though lasted only 10 balls though, before he got out in the fourth over. Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 also showed positive intent but his innings
also lasted just nine balls.
New Zealand was again on the back foot, when Jamie How and Scott Styris arrived at the crease and tried to rescue the innings. They put together a partnership of 43 runs before How got out in the 18th over. Styris followed him, and after that wickets kept
falling at regular intervals. Eventually the Kiwis were skittled out for 103 runs.
James Franklin remained not-out, but this time none of his team-mates was able to provide him support. He scored a total of 17 runs but could only watch as wickets tumbled at the other end.
The Indian team will be very impressed with their bowling performance, after the hosts were asked to field first after losing the toss. All the bowlers apart from Munaf Patel picked up wickets. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravichandran-Ashwin-c84208 was the pick of the bowlers, by picking
up three wickets. He was well supported by Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 who grabbed two wickets each.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and in the World Cup.
