India favourites to win 2011 ICC World Cup: Dilip Vengsarkar
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has reiterated that the Indian cricket team has the potential to lift its second World Cup trophy in the nation’s cricket history.
Vengsarkar said that the 15-man squad that will represent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the upcoming mega cricketing event has many match-winning players in it and the side has been in winning form over the past one year, and so this
is the right time for India to claim their second World Cup title.
"This team has good possibilities of winning the World Cup and it can repeat the victorious run of the Indian cricket team in the 1983 World Cup," said Vengsarkar at the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of a
state-level cricket tournament. "Team India selected for the World Cup has a number of players who can turn the game on their own," he added.
Vengsarkar, who was part of the victorious World Cup squad of India which lifted the coveted trophy in 1983, had earlier picked Yusuf Pathan as the crucial player for India in their World Cup campaign.
"Rohit Sharma is a good player. But Yusuf Pathan can turn a match upside down. He's an explosive player," said Vengsarkar.
Vengsarkar, who is also a former chief selector, had also said that the spinners would be key in determining the results once the World Cup gets underway in the Indian subcontinent on 19 February. He also stressed
on the importance of the bowlers' performance in the final overs of the One-Day matches.
"Spinners can play a crucial role in the middle overs,” he said. “But the result of the match could hinge on how the bowlers perform in the last five overs."
The tenth cricket World Cup will be hosted by three Test-playing nations of South Asia, India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The opening match of the mega event will be played between India and Bangladesh at the
Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka, on 19 February and the final will be played at Wankhede Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on 2 April. A total of 14 teams will participate in the tournament.
