"India have the best chance to win the World Cup,” said Laxman. “I don't want to put undue pressure on the players by predicting the favourites. But I think the team can repeat the 1983 feat,” he added.
The mega cricketing event will be hosted by three Test-playing nations of the subcontinent and India is also one of them. The 36-year-old middle-order batsman feels that the favourable home conditions and the support of home crowd will boost
his side’s confidence in the tournament.
"The event is happening in India so we will have favourable conditions. With all the encouragement and crowd support, it will boost India's confidence," said Laxman.
The stylish Test batsman of India, who has not played a one-day for India since December 2006, said that the well-balanced squad of India has the potential and talent to lift the coveted trophy. He further added that the side has been performing
consistently over the past one-and-a-half year and all the players are well in form and this would serve as a morale booster for the side.
Besides Indian players, the Indian fans have also attached high hopes with the team; however, cricket pundits fear the towering expectations might put the side under pressure and affect their performance adversely. Laxman said that Dhoni
and his men would have to cope with such kind of pressure during the tournament and was hopeful that the team is capable of managing stress very well.
