India's future looks very bleak because Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, Laxman and Kumble is going to retire sooner or later, and India just don't possess the suitable substitutes for this players. The youngsters just don't have the skill and the perfection of Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly or Kumble. And the mere thought of having a suitable replacement for Sachin Tendulkar seems meaningless, because it's nearly impossible that anyone of the younger players of the present team would replace the Little Master. Dhoni may turn out to a good skipper afterall, but his captaincy cannot improve the skills of his teammates. His own performance as a batsman isn't upto the mark. So, India may be in a bit of trouble after the true match winners like Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, Kumble and Laxman retires.

after legends like Dravid, Kumble, Sachin, Saurav and Laxman retire, i think India has players like Gambhir, D Karthik,  R Sharma, Uthhappa, Yuvraj and Dhoni to take up the responsibility

of course gr8 players like Dravid and Co. cant be replaced but these guys can do well after them

even under19 players like Virat Kohli, Ravinder Jadeja and Taruwar Kohli have potential to make a mark on the international level

as for bowling, Ishant Sharma is obviously a good prospect, then there are others like Praveen Kumar, Sreesanth, RP Singh, U19 star Pradeep Sanghwan and Ajitesh Argal

the only area of concern is the Spin department

apart from Harbhajan, there is no spin bowler who is really good

Chawla is young but he has a long way to go
