Former Indian captain and legendary all-rounder, Kapil Dev, backs India to beat Australia in the up-coming series; however, he believes that former Aussie captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, can be a threat.
Ponting has been under immense pressure during the last six months to retain his place in the national team. The right-handed batsman was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 earlier this year as the captain of the Australian team in Tests as well as One Day Internationals.
A number of Aussie cricket analysts feel that Ponting has gone past his best days and selectors should sideline him.
However, Kapil feels that ‘form is temporary but class is permanent’. He further added that Ponting is among the best batsmen today and that this series is his best chance to regain his lost momentum. He went on to say that Ponting is an extremely talented
and experienced player who knows how to steer the team towards victory.
The legendary all-rounder said, "Ponting is the most important player. He is an experienced player and if India can control him, then we can control Australia. Remember experience always comes in handy in the long run. He has scored enough runs against us
and is due for a big score."
It has always been tough for India to pass through the grassy pitches of Australia and the fast-paced balls of Australian bowlers. However, Kapil thinks that time has changed now and the current Australian team is not capable enough to put the same pressure
on India this time.
Kapil further added that the retirement of some of the best Aussie cricketers recently has been a blow for the team and that it will take a while before the Aussies can heal.
"This time India has a better chance to win the Test series in Australia. Australia were on top of the world cricket for 15 years. But now it is not the same team without (Glenn) McGrath, (Shane) Warne, (Adam) Gilchrist and (Matthew) Hayden," Kapil said.
