Day 2 – Lunch: NZ 1st Inns 341/9
The Indian bowlers finally got rewards in the first session of day 2 of the second test against New Zealand in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on Saturday.
The hosts made quick inroads in the New Zealand line-up to tighten the screws around them and stop them from posting a big total in the first innings at the Uppal stadium.
Resuming at overnight score of 258/4, the visitors had an ordinary first session the second day which has pegged them a bit.
The first wicket of the day fell at 269 when wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins was dismissed leg before wicket for 4 runs by pacer Zaheer Khan.
New Zealand was hoping for a repeat performance by first test heroes Jesse Ryder and Kane Williamson but it was not to be as Williamson perished for 4 runs by Zaheer Khan.
Soon after, the blackcaps lost their captain Daniel Vettori for 11 with the score at 312.
Vettori was the third consecutive batsman in the morning session to be declared lbw as he was trapped in front by off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.
Ryder though, tried his best to score quick runs from one end as he kept losing partners at the other end.
Ryder smashed 10 fours in his resolute effort scoring 70 runs off 120 balls to follow his 100 in the first test, but was dismissed by Harbhajan at the stroke of lunch.
But before the players could walk off for lunch, the Indians had another moment to celebrate when fast bowler Tim Southee was stumped by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 off Harbhajan for 10 runs.
The first session of day 2 indeed belonged to the home side.
Zaheer Khan the spearhead of the Indian attack has so far taken 4 wickets, while Harbhajan Singh has grabbed 3.
The Indians would be hoping to clean up the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 innings quickly after the break and build on a solid batting platform when they get to bat.
