India must start to perform well outside the sub-continent, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 – Cricket News Update
Sourav Ganguly, the former Test captain, has urged the Indian team to start focusing on doing well away from home and expressed that it was quite disappointing to see the Men in Blue lose eight matches on the trot in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
last year.
The 39-year-old was made India’s captain in 2000 and is considered to be one of the most successful leaders in the history of Indian cricket. The Kolkata-born cricketer led his country in 49 Test matches, which is the most for any
Indian player and has a success ratio of 42.85.
In the early 2000s, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 started to do well away from home and many analysts give credit to the left-handed batsman’s inspirational captaincy.
The Men in Blue have always done well at the slow and low pitches at home and Ganguly is quite confident that India will not face many problems at their backyard in the coming years as well. However, his concern remains India’s performance
away from home, which has been found wanting in recent times.
Ganguly expressed, “We'll always be a force to reckon with at home, but we've got to be good travellers. That has to be the goal, that's the goal I had when I became the India captain (in early 2000). We can't only be winning at home
and losing overseas.”
India was the number one ranked Test team of the world before being thrashed by England in the four-match series in 2011. The result was no different in Australia as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side slipped further down the rankings and
lost eight Test matches in a row.
The former Indian skipper, who is also the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s technical committee, is taking revolutionary steps in the domestic circuit in order to enhance the players’ ability to deliver the goods
outside the sub-continent.
“I don't know how many teams have lost eight Tests in a row overseas, like we did, in England and in Australia. How could the technical committee not take note of this dubious happening?” he added.
